2014 has been a memorable year for me with the establishment and growth of my Etsy shop business, the new Prints Make Profits membership site plus member only forum and my brand new Etsy business course Your Etsy Profit Machine! being just a few of the highlights.

    Thanks so much for our Zazzle guide I’m sure it will be full of helpful information.
    Just downloaded not read it yet but know it will help create an income stream.

    Just read some comments and wish to add that Margaret Tarrant’s work is not Public Domain in UK. As she died in 1959 and the rule is 70 years after artist died .Public Domain UK and USA very different.

  11. Hi Stuart, Thanks very much for putting together this free guide. I use PD material for resale myself but wanted to say that I’m pretty sure Spider Man and other major characters from Marvel and images are never copyright free. The characters themselves are trademarks or copyright and using their images can (and do) get your products taken off Zazzle, or worse, the intellectual property owners could try to sue.

    Of the two “public domain” Spider Man images you showed as examples, the first was actually a copyrighted Marvel image and someone had merely shared it at Deviant Art for personal use. The second (again Deviant Art) was fan art, and again, since the character is in essentially perpetual trademark/copyright, even the fan art cannot be used commercially.

    I don’t mean to be a downer – I just wanted to warn about this because your well-intended and otherwise helpful ebook might get a lot of people in hot water somewhere down the track. There is plenty of great PD material around, but you have to be very wary of copyright when it comes to using pop-culture material.

      When I search both “creative commons” search and Google’s advanced search with the “free to use or modify commercially” I get lots of these images showing up. I also see lots of these types of prints also showing up on both ETSY and Ebay for sale by multiple sellers although I haven’t personally sold in this niche.

      One good double check to see if an image is OK (i.e. actually in the Public Domain) is if you see the image appearing on other Zazzle products by MULTIPLE sellers who have been selling for a while. Meanwhile, you certainly have me curious now so I will check further into how and why these images are showing up in “free to use” searches.

      All of my guides are subject to updates and that includes this one, so I will keep you (and everyone) posted.

    it’s hard to keep up when you churn out one guide after the other ;). My plan for the holidays was to open an etsy store (in addition to my ebay store).
    I’ve never heard of Zazzle before, so thanks for that and the free gift.

    Thank you so much for this valuable gift 🙂 Im on my way to work, but I did a quick read through and its just like all of your other products, packed to the hilt with awesome information. This came at such a great time for me as I have been so addicted to gathering PD images, my hard drive is over flowing lol.

    Its amazing and overwhelming just how much PD images are out there. But after the New Year, I have to stop the addiction and do something with them.

    I took a look through Zazzle and see people offering an array of different sizes. I guessing the Zazzle prints in all of those sizes and we have to come up with a price for all of them and still make a profit.

    But on Etsy, I think the people have to have all of those sizes printed them selves. Are they using places like Office Max or Office Depot to farm the printing out? Printing in different sizes would be my problem, and some people want prints on Canvas.
